“Nothing to Give” is the result of a collaboration between Polish duo Rebeka (Iwona Skwarek and Bartosz Szczęsny) with Portuguese producer Mirror People (aka Rui Maia). The single is taken from their forthcoming EP “Nothing to Give” to be released via the Portuguese label D.I.S.C.O. Texas tomorrow, May 24. It is not the first time that the nice people from “Texas”label are releasing material from Polish artists. If you remember, they have previously released Rebeka’s beautiful track “Stars” and Kamp’s modern classic “Cairo.” This new work has arrived just on time before the beginning of another Summertime in the North Hemisphere. We’re specially impassioned for the balearic feeling of this piece, as well as for the sensual vibe it conveys, together with an interesting instrumental arrangement by Rui Maia, brightened up by the beautiful vocal from Iwona. Rui Maia, a.k.a Mirror People, born in Porto, Portugal and today based in Lisbon, well know for his multiple projects such as X-wife or We Trust, dropped this delicious edit for the single “Cyan” by Kindness yesterday. I can’t resist this jam and I had to share it with you! In his own words: “The original song is so brilliant, but it’s so short that i did this “re-touch” and turn it into a more “DJ friendly” version. Always on my DJ Sets & now on yours…” While preparing my DJ set for tomorrow night I came across this track, and I thought it would be nice to share it with you. Very simple extended edit, yet very effective, and it’s perfect if you’re also preparing your DJ set for the incoming festivities!

I’ve been listening to Mirror People, since ever. He has an incredible career, full of parallel projects that he keeps feeding and never and “goes out of style”!

Born in Oporto Rui Maia has been one of the “Chameleons” of the Portuguese and international scene. I can assure he can play almost any kind of music genre you want. Besides producing has Mirror People, he has been involved in other projects such as “X-Wife“, “We Trust” and he also worked in some tracks with Social Disco Club… this guy never stops….

Deeply influenced by the music of Joy Division, Love or even David Bowie, he starts to play drums and later he discovers the synthesizer. In my personal opinion it is the perfect “toy” for Rui. I’m sure i’m not the only one thinking like this! In 2009 he starts to produce his own solo material. First under his own name, he releases “Cantonese Man” and a little bit later as “Mirror People”. Randomly thinking i quickly remember tracks like (Youtube links) “The Heart Of The Sun“, “Never Coming Back“, or even “Reaction“. He has also remixed names such has Jacques Renault, Social Disco Club, Mode, Pelifics, Cosmonaut Grecko and many more…. I almost forgot his remixes, which i love the one he made for Terminal Twilight but also the bomb he remixes for Mario Basanov! Are you more… “clarified”?!?

All projects Rui’s involved you can feel his touch and obviously you understand why he is everywhere. If you have been following him, you know his “hands” are all over these projects i have just mentioned. I have already posted his mixtapes, but i think this EP deserves our totally attention, In fact i was looking for an excuse to write about this great producer. I guess we will spend a lot of time listening to this new work without stopping. The exciting vocals by Rowetta gives an extra touch of sensuality taking us back a few years, maybe touching “Blind” from Hercules & Love Affair. I would say it may have some DFA influences in it including the vocals, sounding very late 90′s disco, which is obviously a natural result of Rui’s influences, however it brings something else… and that’s where Mirror People takes this track into another dimension, giving a touch of modernity and extra sensuality. We could say this is just another track, but it isn’t. Gives me the impression we have here a “hit” almost in the end of the year. Another idea i take from this EP is that it can become some kind of epic stuff, probably you can listen to this in two years and it will always sound fresh and new.

Besides the original track, this pack comes also with remixes by Moullinex, Munk, Social Disco Club and Severino (Horse Meat Disco). We can just assume this a golden EP! All these remixes are pure bombs. I guess it’s not necessary to make any kind of presentation here facing the names i just mentioned. This is one of the best works of 2011, which i highly recommend! This release is already available since November 11th and you can buy it on Beatport!

This week is passing by so fast and i have seen so many cool mixtapes coming out, that i have decided to blog some. Again, there is no one new here. However, all theses guys are being very active lately. Everyone here is about to release something new, or have just released something new. It’s quite impressive the way they work and also with so many quality. I would love to write everyday about their stuff, but i have been so tired that i honestly need vacations, or i’m going to get crazy. I know i’m complaining all the time, but it’s true. I wanted to write this post yesterday, but i dying….
Anyway, the new collaborators that came here help, have been so nice and all of them have been shinning. Believe me, i’m not an easy person do deal with! I’m lucky with the people i choose to help me. They have been very patient and sometimes they have to deal with my personality. All their posts have been widely appreciated by the artists. All these things makes me feel very proud of them. I’m not going to cry… but i’m really proud of their work!

Starting with Moullinex, like usual he made an awesome tape. The thing here it’s not even his technique, which is always perfect. These guys never miss when we talk about this issue. The main thing here is that has putted together a lot of exclusive stuff, unreleased and also that will come out. Almost everything from DISCO Texas. I would love to have his hard disk. Can you imagine how many music he has on it? Can’t wait to hear his dj set in our golden party. It is going to be one of the best moments of the year for me. I say this because i never go out, it’s so sad….

Mirror People is driving me crazy. He has a new EP coming out on November. This mix starts with a remix by Munk which will be included on his new EP. He keeps pumping me with more awesome stuff i didn’t know. I’m very anxious to see what is going to be people’s reaction about his new work. This guy truly deserves all the best. He is one of the most talented musicians in our country which is Portugal (just in case). Another appointment, is the fact that this mixtape has only 49 minutes and it’s so cool that you will be listening to this on repeat mode for hours. I’m not a big fan of long mixtapes. If you read my previous posts you know what i’m talking about!

Cassian is also in this pack. I can’t get enough of their remix for the Nightriders. I’m very tempted to play it in Oporto. I know it has already came out a while ago, but it’s so addictive and so perfect, that when i listen to it, believe me or not, it always seems to be the first time. About this mixtape, there is a lot of tracks i haven’t heard before. I don’t know where these guys search for music, but i would be very happy do discover that. Such a great funky feeling all over the mix!

GREAT mixtape is what Moonlight Matters did for the Studio Brussel’s Switch/Playground. Everybody knows i’m his number one fan. I love they way he takes his mixtapes. Seba is one of those guys that doesn’t care at all if the track is new or old. He just feels the need to put some love and also his personal touch. In this mix you can hear Michael Jackson or even a classic Italo Disco. Believe me, this is so massive that i feel so little when i try to do a mixtape. Moonlight Matters will always be around here. He is not just another guy making music. He is a truly music lover. You can feel this in everything he does. All his remixes are massive and also all his mixtapes have a story to tell…

Finally, another curious work here from Punks Jump Up. I felt in love since i saw the title. These guys are so cool! They have made a mixtape just with 80′s classics. They ripped them from vinyl’s, edited and here you have the result. Can you imagine to hear this on a dj set in a disco? It’s like going back in time! This is the s***!

This pack should be released yesterday, but souncloud was crazy. All world was begging for the new The Magician’s mixtape. It was pretty interesting to see lot’s of people on Facebook “ordering” Stephen to upload it when soundcloud returned. Ok, i was one of of them…..

Anyway this pack is full of sweet summer beats. It’s so hot that i my ears want to listen sweet beats and new music. This time we have The Magician, Mirror People, Rita Zukt, Luke Million and Edwin Van Cleef.

There isn’t too much to tell about these long awesome tapes. Maybe Rita Zukt is the honor mention because you may ask yourself who is her? Well i have been posting her mixtapes for the last couple of months because they are really good. You can clearly feel that she does these tapes directly from the heart and it doesn’t sound like a top chart. It’s really just for music lovers…..

Rui Maia aka Mirror People brings also huge tape. You know that in Golden Scissors we only post awesome music and this tape is excellent. I love very much his tapes because technically they are always perfect and also with an excellent music choice. Really, listen to it carefully and you will understand exactly what i’m talking about. You may think i’m crazy, but i listen to these “long metrages” because i like to learn how do these masters mix. I know i’m a noob, maybe that’s why i write about music instead of being a real musician!

Another mention for the first Luke Million’s tape. I’m not impressed by the quality of the tape, but for the choice of tracks he made and some of them i had never heard before. It’s absolutely amazing!

From in Oporto, Portugal, Humberto Matias is the man behind Social Disco Club. Obviously for me it’s an honour do dedicate him some lines. In fact, i have been thinking about this post for a long time already. I’m always waiting for the right moment to write this. Well, seems the day arrived:)

Probably everyone already knows this story. Anyway, here we go…. everything started more or less in 2007 when Humberto’s created his personal blog http://www.socialdiscoclub.blogspot.com/. This platform was his “road” for him to show his real honest passion for disco. Sometimes there was so many visitors, that his blog used to crash all the time. Can you imagine? I hope one day Golden Scissors crashes too!

Back to our story …. with all this booster, it was just a small step for the vinyl reality, including two releases for the monster Mindless Boogie. Social Disco Club quickly got respect from people like Aeroplane, Foolix Felix, Ray Mang, Pete Herbert or Faze Action. How awesome is that…?

We are already in 2011 and i assure you that Social Disco Club is known all over the Globe. His has already made collaborations with people like Greg Wilson, Mirror People, Diskjokke and more recently with Munk or Mario Bazanov. “Respect” is the correct word i can find to describe Mr. Humberto Matias….

Começando por Mr Mitsuhirato, alter ego de Hugo Moutinho. Muito pouco há a dizer, ou não! A sua mixtape fala por si. Hugo é um dj com uma carreira sólida. Para muitos é um dos Dj’s a nível nacional com melhor gosto e cultura musical. Hugo é um dj que com o passar do tempo tem cada vez mais fãs. Apenas deixo a pergunta no “ar”. Para quando uma produção de Mr Mitsuhirato?

Mirror People é um projeto de Rui Maia. Na minha opinião este senhor é claramente uma “enciclopédia” de música tanto eletrónica, mas também numa onda mais rockeira. Ouvir um dj set Rui é sempre descobrir um novo mundo, onde a fusão de vários estilos acabam por fazer com que tenha um estilo muito próprio e apaixonante.

Xinobi é sem dúvida o meu herói neste pacote. A minha admiração por ele advém desde o inicio da sua carreira a solo. Sempre acompanhado pelo seu amigo Luís Clara Gomes (Moullinex), juntos levaram o nome de Portugal até ao hemisfério sul. Todas as vezes que tenho oportunidade de ouvir xinobi, eu danço, pulo, danço, pulo….. literalmente falando!

Para finalizar o pacote de hoje, escolhi uma mixtape de uma “menina” que gosto muito. Rita Zukt começou a sua carreira aos 17 anos. É verdade!!! Segundo a Rita um bom Dj é alguém que o faz com muita dedicação, que sinta o que o público sente, que mexa com as pessoas. Não posso estar mais de acordo. Esta menina com o passar do tempo tornou-se uma dj de elite na cena nacional. Sempre, mas sempre mesmo, com bom gosto musical e, sempre a tocar nas melhores casas do país. Na minha opinião, fico com a sensação que a produção deveria ser o seu próximo passo!

To finish our event “WE ARE TUGAS!!!”, i have decided to make a mixtape pack with some national music producers and dj’s. Some of them doesn’t need promotion because they are already huge.

Starting with Mr Mitsuhirato, alter ego used by Hugo Moutinho. There isn’t too much to talk about him, or not! His mixtape speaks for himself. Hugo is a Dj with a solid career. For many people he his probably the national Dj with best musical taste and musical culture. I just leave a question in the “air”. When will we listen a production from Mr Mitsuhirato?

Mirror People is a project from Rui Maia. In my personal opinion he is a “music encyclopedia”, not just electronic music, but also alternative rock. To Listen to a Dj set from Rui is to discover a new world where the fusion between several music genres results on his own music style. Always very personal and passionate.

No doubt Xinobi is my hero on this pack. My admiration for him started with his solo career. Always with his friend Luís Clara Gomes (Moullinex). Together they have done a lot for Portugal. In fact, they have played in the South Hemisphere. Everytime i have the opportunity to listen to a Dj set from Xinobi, i dance, jump, dance, jump…. literally speaking!!!

To finish our today’s pack, i choose a mixtape from a “girl” i love. Rita Zukt started her Dj career by the age of 17. TRUE!!! According to Rita “… a good Dj is someone who dedicates the art of mixing with love and passion. Someone who feels the audience and make people dance”. I totally agree with her. With the years passing, she has become an elite Dj on the national scene. Always, always… with an excelent musical taste, and also, playing in the best clubs all over the country. In my opinion, the feeling i have, maybe it’s time for her to start making her own productions. Should be her next step!

More news from D.I.S.C.O.Texas. This time Lazydisco is coming with a super EP full of “fresh juice” to refresh your Summer.

Fred Oliveira aka Rockets aka Lazydisco is the man beyond this project which was born in 2010. This is his debut EP. However, this has already been played all over the world by many well rated Dj’s. His sound is very different from his other project (Rockets). Seems like he left for a while his “repetitive” disco house and slowed down a little bit making this sexy and relaxed music… very cool!

This release will come with remixes by In Flagranti, The C90s, Mirror People, Xinobi and Mode. Out on June 13th on D.I.S.C.O.Texas.
