A Golden Scissors favorite, Erol Alkan, is back with a powerful track. He has taken Night Work’s “Long Forgotten Boy” and reworked it into something magical. The deconstruction and reconstruction of the track is virtually unrecognizable to the original, which makes it an instant favorite for us. The talent is eminent through every thread of the track, and we are excited to share this gem with you. At 2 minutes in, the first progression sets the stage for the next few minutes of bliss. His housey transition at 3:38 would be a welcome addition to any DJ set on the festival circuit this summer. The breakdown into near silence at 4:46 showcases his complete talent and preservation of the lyrics that he carefully selected. He has picked out the best parts of the song (most of the lyrics are unremarkable), and helped them shine. This will be an instant favorite for you, as it was for us. Formed by the Brazilian duo Lucio Morais and Yuri Chix, Database is one of the most prominent producers from that country. Since 2005 they have started to built a solid career based on Old School Disco with some pinches of Electro and Techno. Since that time they have become local stars. When i say “local stars”, don’t forget Brazil is huge!

Database already counts with remixes for (youtube links) Golden Bug, Is Tropical or even for the legendary Larry Tee. Besides all this work, this duo already played in some of the biggest festivals along with Kanye West, MGMT and they have also made a US tour with French Horn Rebellion.

Their new EP called “New Disco” is their first own EP. Probably this is the work where they put all their ideas for originals. We can assume they have been all these years acquiring knowledge and influences and now they are going to dump all of it on these 3 tracks! For sure you will fall in love for this EP. I have already listened to this minimix several times. This work is going to be a bomb on the dancefloor. The main idea you will keep is that this is a very mature work.

Besides this minimix, i collected some some cool remixes i have on my hard disk for free download. This new EP is coming out on Kitsuné on September 19th!

Here we ago for another pack. Like usual we have 5 mixtapes to discover new music. I think Saturday is a good day to listen these mixtapes. I just press play and while i’m listening to them, i can do something else.

Today we have The Magician with his latest tape (13 already). This one has been released some days ago already, but i haven’t miss any, so i decided to post it. We also have three more lazy tapes from Drop Out Orchestra, Tronik Youth and Lazydisco (weekly radio show)! Last mixtape from A-Trak is very cool and bangs since the beginning, pumping disco, electro and more.

Finally, i’m going to write about one of most prodigious producers of the “french touch” i have been listening, not for a long time, because he his very young. Obviously, i’m “talking” about the great Brett Ewels aka Louis La Roche. NO, he his not french. He is from Norwich, Uk. I will try to organize myself on this post, because there are lots of things i want to say about him.
I’m going to start with his age. When this dude appeared, no one believed he had only 17. I’m not talking about a kid that is making cool stuff and then disappears, i’m talking about someone who started to produce quality music and… never stopped.
I clearly remember his first released track called “Love” which had a huge impact. It was posted on the Erol Alkan’s forum as TB. It was widely reported as the brand new solo material from Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk. A few days later, Louis came out and assumed he had done it. And this is when his “Odyssey” begins…

After this awesome track, produced at home, he starts to pump us with a lot of quality work. Actually his music has a lot of groove based, somewhere between 80’s, B-boy electro and modern disco. Louis use and abuse of filters, effects and slap basses. Always innovating and making his music more and more fresh!
Since 2008 he has done a lot of work. “The Peach”, “Me & Her”, “Number One” and “My Turn” are the EP’s he has released. Also, many other releases on several compilations like “Millenium Disco” or “Playboy Sessions: Las Vegas”. Well, talking about his remixes… this is a lot of work, LOL. Though this post may seem like an Ode to Erol Alkan that’s not the whole truth Metronomy you can’t stop loving this guys (and girl). Since 2006 Metronomy headed by Joseph Mount , have been conquering their own space in music universe, either through their originals (Pip Paine and Nights Out) or through Joseph Mount’s amazing remixes (Gorillaz, Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons, Goldfrapp, The Young Knifes, Zero 7, Kate Nash, Sebastian Tellier, Joakim, CSS and Lykke Li)…not rushing too much they’re releasing their 3rd album of originals (April 11th) named The English Riviera. Now with a new Band architecture including Anna Prior (drums) and Gbenga Adelekan (Bass) Metronomy got more complete then ever… Mount makes the string to the original band personality, but one can sense more diversity in musical features and voices and lyrics and on and on and on…nothing really repeats!
