Without a doubt that Jamie XX is one of my personal favorite DJ’s of the moment! Last month he played alongside with Carl Craig, and John Talabot at Red Bull Music Academy x Boiler Room in Miami . From everyone that played in that afternoon, his set was the only one I heard from the beginning until he end. Why? Specially because he’s not “boring” as entertainer. He could just play the same genre over and over again, but he didn’t. His DJ set was diversified roaming around several genres, which can only make it more rich, and for sure people enjoyed it a lot more. He shows that by playing a set with different genres, can only make it sound better. Obviously, it’s more difficult to play this way because you can make  a few errors. But, aren’t we all human? The secret of being a successful DJ is to touch people’s heart. It’s useless if you know all the tracks that are being released if you don’t know how to play them. To become a successful entertainer you don’t need to play all the hottest and new tunes that are being released. All you need to know is to make a good and varied sequence. March was another excellent month of fantastic releases! In case you don’t remember, last month we extended our list up to 20 tracks. This month we could have extended to 25. It’s really amazing the amount of excellent releases we come across every month. So, there are at least 5 or 6 tracks that we didn’t include in the list below. A couple days ago Brooklyn-based producer Jeremy Malvin, a.k.a. Chrome Sparks, dropped a new EP titled “Sparks.” Honestly, I’ve never paid much attention to his music, until todays morning. I’m completely surrendered to this work, specially for the single “Send The Pain On.” According to my experience as listener, you should definitely download the entire EP and assimilate it carefully. You will totally understand my point of view, since the whole piece sounds like an history that is being slowly unveiled. Sparks’ music is revisit old patterns from 80s, intermittent drums, turning it into something very deep and emotional. There’s also the romantic side of Sparks golden touch. Some of the tracks are perfect to dance with your eyes closed with someone special close to you. Writing about music nowadays is becoming more difficult than ever. It’s like swimming in an ocean full of amazing sounds being delivered everyday. Sometimes I feel completely forceless, because I want to write a good review about a piece, but at the same time there’s not much time available, basically, because I’m already thinking about the next track I want to share with you. It’s all about time……
A couple minutes ago, London born Vienna-based producer SOHN, shared a new piece titled “Bloodflows.” In case it’s first time you’re facing SOHN’s music, you should at least listen to his magical single “The Wheel” |listen here|. The new single follows the same methodology of his previous release. Why change a formula that is already amazing? You might become a little septic about the beginning of this single, but it will grow on you whereas the sound keeps in progression on the player. The track starts with a simple piano-line together with a clean angelic vocal. You will feel the instrumental arrangement giving body to the whole piece with an interesting drummed up progression. Around 2:28 there’s a change of rhythm together with a  cool pitched up micro vocal samples, which will make you repeat this part, literally, on repeat mode. Absolutely brilliant.

Producers have been really into the 90s throwbacks lately, and for good reason. I myself am a diehard 90s fanatic. I can’t get enough of throwback Nickelodeon and slowjams, so I was really stoked to see WMNSTUDIES throw out a 90s bootleg. INOJ was sort of a one hit wonder, and her hit “Let Me Love You Down” is probably not that memorable to our readers. I remembered the track after queuing up the jam, but had no idea the name of the artist. What WMNSTUDIES has done, is created a memory that took me back to singing to this song with a hairbrush in my mirror. WMNSTUDIES has managed to speed up the jam, and make it more danceable. From the sound of their bootleg, why would anyone ever listen to the original? They have breathed life into an otherwise forgotten wonder. Slap on your slap-bracelets and secure your velcro LA Lights, because this tune is going to take you back to memory lane.  The duo hails out of  Vancouver, and might be one to watch.

Thr!!!er is back. Not that one, the Chk Chk Chk version of their own “Thriller”. Has stated by themselves in recent interviews, it’s meant to be their epic album. We’ll have to wait until its release on April 30Th to find out, but it’s always good when they release something new. The band with of the question marks, !!! or Chk Chk Chk, have been around since 1996 making tunes that go from funk, post-punk, to new york noise and after releasing four albums it’s still hot. It’s all that blend of musical colours that makes this an interesting act to follow.
They decided to give away their new single, Slyd, another groove song, resembling the golden years of ESG. It’s just a trip full of big beat, a little house feel, and an arrangement of instruments released throughout the song that’s sure to make you move your body. I should just stop writing now and let you listen.

We just found this soul edit and thought we’de share the love. It’s always nice to see that people don’t forget the classics and especially this one by the talented Minnie Riperton, an artist whose life was shortly abrupted at the age of 31.
It’s got all that soul goodness inside, and much more, making it more danceable with a groove that sounds just right. The collaboration between Maturana, Axel Go and Apricot works perfectly. Just friends sharing their love for music. Listen and share the Golden love.

“Holdin On” is another unveiled single of Flume‘s long-awaited LP to be released in November. Apparently someone leaked this track and it’s already circulating on the web. This new single is an absolute mixture of influences that this kid has been surely very well accompanied. No matter what happened during his grown process as musician, we can feel that his music reflects perfectionism, not just technically but also his talent is immense. It gives the idea that Harley Streten was invented, giving the idea that he’s the perfect producer, that everyone will hopefully admire for his talent. As blogger it’s truly interesting to see how massive an artist can become if shows diversity and solid productions. For sure Flume is an example for the newcomers. Almost forgot to mention that this single is already available on iTunes. MASSIVE.

Amsterdam-based producer Jurian van deer Hoeven better known as Saux is giving away his remix of Jessie Ware‘s “Sweet Talk,” taken from her debut LP “Devotion.” After hearing so many times to this remix I had to post it. I accidentally came across it and that’s how music tastes better. Saux’s approach is very simple, but very effective. You will easily fall in love for a warm and sweet house beat, with an enormous soul vibe…

I think that most of you don’t know him or didn’t even hear of DJ Ride. (Those who did, skip to the track player and just enjoy.) That’s one of the reasons for this post to be special. Sharing stuff that we love and may not yet have been given the credit for its quality immediately puts a huge smile on my face. The other one is the fact that DJ Ride is a fellow compatriot and it always makes you proud to know that good music is made in your country right? A small bio just for the record. Ride is a technically talented Portuguese DJ and a reference in what he calls urban music. With a constant fully booked agenda he played alongside artists like Q-bert, Dam-Funk and A-trak. He’s a part of Beatbombers collective, IDA Vice World Champions in 2010 and IDAWorld Champions in 2011 in “Show” category. I’ll leave the rest for you to discover.

As for this post, we wanted to share his new original track with the collaboration of Lisa Davis and her sweet voice. “We’ll be talking” sounds really fresh with lots of soul and a sunny feeling all the way. To enjoy until the summer comes. Grab it. It’s free.

Hey, did you know that we like Santigold a lot?! Set to release her album titled “Master of My Make-Believe” on April 23rd, we can barely contain ourselves with all the excitement we have for her next record. As with most artists these days, the best way to ready your fans for the release of your album is to have an exceptional producer(s) remix your songs. Needless to say, Santigold managed to find herself some of the most talented producers in electronic music to remix her latest track “Disparate Youth.” Significantly different from the original, The 2 Bears take “Disperate Youth” and give it more of a darker, almost dubby feel by adding in drawn out synth notes, morphed vocals, and a few bars of their own signature 2-step melodies. I’m not a fortune teller, but expect this one to be huge!

Here’s something that really makes me happy and for sure i will play it the entire weekend. From Mexico comes Joseph Terruel & Jona Saucedo and they have just released via Bust A Dub this EP “My Friend” with two versions of the same track. This is really smooth and delicate and it’s perfect for sunny days with a cold drink! You will probably recognize the vocals from Groove Armada and honestly both versions are perfect, however the B side is my favorite. Enjoy…!

Mathieu Clé – To Begin With

Born in France in the early eighties, Mathieu Clé soon started his relationship with electronic music. By the age of 15 he discovered “black” music which became his main influence. Names such as Derrick May, Joe Claussell and Moodymann quickly became to be part of his quotidian. Around 1998 he releases his first vinyl record, and he started to tour France, playing in clubs and festivals all over the country. In 2004 he won a Dj competition during the Biennale of Design in Saint Etienne. Naturally he started to be booked with more frequency and [was even] invited to the Electricity festival in Lyon, as a [warm-up] DJ for Monika Kruze and Sebastien Leger.

In 2008 he moved to New York, becoming more familiar with the “real world of music” entering into the world of funk, disco and 80′s trends. A year later he moved back to France and came with an idea of a new concept “cocktail et canapé” (cocktail & couch), creating a mixed compilation of his latest influences. In 2009 he traveled to Berlin to play in “Café Zapatta” and signed a contract with Miniatura Records. During the summer of 2009 he also played in Ibiza acting in three of the most famous local bars: The Café Del Mar, The Savannah and Canguiri Bar. Are you impressed enough? No? Ok. In 2010 he travels to Bali (Indonesia) performing in three clubs (Syndicate, Déja-Vu, Bahina). Recently, he has been playing at “Villa Rouge” in Montpellier and he is also planning to move back to New York.

Back to his new EP. It comes with 4 original tracks and edits. We can expect a fusion of 80′s funk & disco samples edited and recycled up with modern nudisco/house beats in a properly direction. The result is an energetic sound that make you feel like taken back in time to when all this dance-floor. It’s impossible to stay indifferent to this magnificent work. You will instantly look for sun, beach, cocktails and glamour are the main ingredients all over these four tracks. I can assure you i will play this record wherever i’m going to. Since i discovered Mathieu Clé, these four pieces have been played on repeat. It’s like a treasurer i have been keeping, and now i’m sharing because i couldn’t be selfish to keep this (just) for me!

Coming from the capital of Normandy, Rouen and from Paris, we could easily expect for some quality French touch music, fresh new-disco or any other type of quality dance music. In this case, the sounds reaching our ears from the North of France are a little aside from this kind of music, if we can dare to tag music. The two beat-makers (Samanto Faxx and Dj Julien Lebrun) and the keyboard player (Florian Pellissier) we’re talking about are The Boogie Gentlemen.

This is clearly a concept band, searching to combine the most variable elements of boogie, vintage sounds, old school organs, piano and electric guitar riffs. All of this, raped with a vocal collaboration from Oliver Jawen, an also french soul music singer.

The two tracks we’re presenting, “It’s Party Time” and ”I can’t stop” have the same amount of addicting substances as they have of mastering quality and variety of elements.

While listening to “It’s Party Time” I was immediately  taken straight into the 80′s with all the smooth and funky groove in it. Just seconds after starting to ear it, I can picture myself  in some club listening to an Aurra, D-Train, Serious Intention show or even in the old The Hacienda Club in Manchester taping my feet to some Greg Wilson Set. The evolution of all the different elements in this track just takes your attention till the end. The bass sounds just awesome and doesn’t let you be still for more than a few seconds in the beginning, and then, the electric guitar, the ambient bar sounds, the sweet female vocal samples and finally a contagious organ synth screaming “FUNK, FUNK FUNK”.

In “I Can’t Stop”, Jawen’s voice is what catches my ear instantly. His vocal skills are quite something and almost makes me feel like there’s nothing else the song needs, and there’s no band backing up. Anyway, there’s just some cowbells, some smooth bass and electric guitar, and again, some motown style piano.

The Boogie Gentlemen – I Can’t Stop

Just listening to this two songs I could almost assume that, their compatriot Dimitri From Paris or even Greg Wilson would be more than happy to play any of these in some club in the near future. Let’s just wait to see.

This two tracks are part of their forthcoming album being released this summer. Until then we can only wait, being sure of one thing. Yes Sir, they can boogie.

She, Sarah Ruba, works into the fashion business as a part time model. He, Adam Pavao, is a producer and a multi-instrumentalist. They first met at a biker bar, where Adam was playing with a former project.
It was predictable for them to get knowing each other, considering that there were only bikers there, except Sarah. It was the perfect time for them, cause they were both searching for something, musically speaking. Then everything suddenly got a sense. “Music was the catalyst of our relationship,” explains Pavao,“… Writing our first song together was life changing, literally, because it made us realize not only the artistic potential we had individually, but more so as a couple, and just the basic human connection we had.” Together in life as in music, cause meanwhile they’ve got married too, they have been working on this sublime self-named album for the past three years, in their home/studio, living between Brooklyn, Berlin and Hamilton. Their sound?! I’ve got a long list of adjectives: emotional, emotive, intimate, natural, sparkling, distinctive, original, unique, exquisite…Guess what? I could keep going to infinity!

They wanted something new and fresh: target totally accomplished, I would say. I would add something more: all ten tracks are honestly well-made, and highly valuable. Ten green emeralds!
I occasionally heard of them some weeks ago and my first “click-play” was made for “The Ballad”, first single and centre-piece of the album: a minimalist melodramatic synth-pop melody. And the lyrics is just incredibly moving, powerful and striking! I loved it! I love it! Goes straight to my favorite songs ever!

Out of curiosity: the video of “Nap on the bow”, the first track of the Lp, was made with a Xbox Kinect camera and its body sensor: the visual follows the music with its fluorescent colors, recreating an underwater word.

Time to spray yourself down with some Old-Spice and put on your favourite clubbing shirt, because the following material is intoxicating hot. I was waiting for this “baby” to born almost 7 or 8 months ago, first time i had the privilege to listen to this EP Teaser. And oh boy, the wait was killing me inside. Fortunately, since 18th October, the wait is over, but my replay button is almost washed out. Well, it is worth it!

Gigamesh, DJ/Producer from Minneapolis, is the man beyond the masterpiece. This self titled EP is by far my favourite release of the year. I can’t count the times i conjured some images about the full lenght tracks from that little/big teaser. They all came true, the whole four. They even exceed my expectations!

The EP starts with “When You’re Dancing” featuring vocals from the Miami-based DJ/musician Induce. Apparently, 45 minutes were enough to record all the vocals, and according with the same source, most were first takes. The track starts out with some filtered beats and then blasts you off with this deep and warm synth bass and disco beats. Induce’s vocals just increase the mood. The build is growing and around the 1:05 mark things seem to slow down, like a preparation for something epic. Then, moments later, the same bass and percussion mixes up with this awesome sax and BOOM! You’re Dancing! Exactly 2 weeks before the EP release, this beatport exclusive content came to life. It was like a preview of the awesomeness that would happen 18th October. The “When You’re Dancing ft. Induce EP” contains an extended version of the original and two remixes, one from André Anjos, portuguese RAC member and founder, the other from the Sydney based producer Cassian.

Next is “Red Light“, this time with another singer, Amanda Love. The BPM slows up a little but the magic remains. Smooth, sexy and downbeat. The “perfect end of night” soundtrack. The intro starts to hipnotize you with this chopped melodies and then treats you with a glimpse of Amanda voice right before the melodical journey. Everytime i replayed it more and more details started to appear. The subtle slap bass, the dreamy micro synths, the piano… just close your eyes and let yourself go.

The third track, oh well, it has this awesome history background that you might be aware of it by now. “It’s So Intense” is an hymn to Hungrybear9562′s 2010 Youtube sensation, aka “Double Rainbow“. It was Gigamesh inspiration for the song. This 122 BPM rainbow ride starts off with this “miami vice” synth and chime and god, it is intense! The funky slap guitar and groovy bass will make you move the whole body for sure. If not, sorry, you must be dead. Hungrybear’s tale about the Yosemite mountain giant double rainbow never felt so fantastic. A true bliss! Fare Solid did a free remix for this one. You can listen and download below.

Finally, we have “People“, featuring Nicole Godiva. The energy that emanates from this one is transcendental. The ARP-like synth sequence, the intricate bass arrangement, the interleaved synths, all together with one of the most hot and sensual vocals this track could had. Again, you have to listen to it plenty of times to really capture all the small details. Gigamesh music is full of them. This final track is here for a reason. To leave you eager for more. It has that sense of…”you know i will be back with more”. Meanwhile, go grab this EP as fast as possible, assuming that is not already running in your veins. It is already running through my, intoxicating them at full, and man… how i love it!!
