A Golden Scissors favorite, Erol Alkan, is back with a powerful track. He has taken Night Work’s “Long Forgotten Boy” and reworked it into something magical. The deconstruction and reconstruction of the track is virtually unrecognizable to the original, which makes it an instant favorite for us. The talent is eminent through every thread of the track, and we are excited to share this gem with you. At 2 minutes in, the first progression sets the stage for the next few minutes of bliss. His housey transition at 3:38 would be a welcome addition to any DJ set on the festival circuit this summer. The breakdown into near silence at 4:46 showcases his complete talent and preservation of the lyrics that he carefully selected. He has picked out the best parts of the song (most of the lyrics are unremarkable), and helped them shine. This will be an instant favorite for you, as it was for us. We hope to see more from Erol Alkan this year, because his tracks have been killer so far this year. Pre-order a copy of the limited vinyl over at the Phantasy webstore here, available on March 18.

Here’s something completely unexpected! I don’t know what to say about this track… all I know is that if you click play you’re going to love it, or hate it. I just came across Dilemmachine & TonyTone‘s take of Fugees’ 90′s classic “Ready Or Not,” (…listen here…) and it is bombastic. I’m not even going to describe this jam, because I don’t want to ruin the surprise. Honestly, I would love to know hear thoughts about this version. Always fan when someone decides to rework legendary bands such as Smashing Pumpkins. This time we have our golden boy Good Night Keaton reinventing the epic single “1979.” Let’s call it “Shake Down 1979,” and yeah, I’m so playing this one on my next DJ Set. If you’re too young and you don’t know/know this track, you should definitely revisit the entire Smashing Pumpkins “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” LP, released in 1995. Damn I’m getting old! Anyway, don’t forget to thank Aaron for this excellent work on Facebook and Soundcloud as well. Enjoy…!

Last week we featured a spectacular mixtape from the Australian duo Flight Facilities (…listen/download here…) in which this edit by Rocco Raimundo for Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side” was featured, taken from his second solo album “Transformer” released in 1972. I think there’s some sort of appreciation from the Australian duo for the golden touch of the French producer, because this is the second time they have shared their love for his edits, as I clearly remember them featuring Rocco Raimundo’s edit of Kool & The Gang’s ‘Get Down On It’ (…listen/download here…) on their blog last year. So here it is! That fantastic remix featured on The Magician’s Magic Tape 28 by Pat Lok, Vancouver-based daft-funk maestro is making us move like it’s nobodies business. The track features various different elements and sounds from genres such as Nu Disco to some great House touches. Like the style on his EP ‘No Shame’ (…listen here…), it certainly reflects the ‘non-serious’ approach he tries to achieve in all his music.This is definitely a golden track!! LA-based duo Poolside are back with one of those mesmerizing reworks! A journey to the past with Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan” off their second album “Paranoid” released in 1970. As usual we’re facing another beautiful rework from the duo, taking a dark approach and adding their usual touch. Always with a sublime bassline and an addictive “dry” beat. On repeat…….

Here’s M A N I K‘s retro remix of Oberhofer‘s “Away Frm U,” which is an official (and unreleased) remix he did for the band earlier this year. This single is taken from Oberhofer’s “Time Capsules II” released last April via Glassnote Records. Chris Manik’s take is super sneaky and really catchy! For sure it’s going to be played on repeat for incoming weekend…

Here’s the excellent remix by the Alpines for ultraísta‘s “Bad Insect.” Really love this remix for several reasons. The original is fantastic and I just came across this delicious rework. In case you didn’t know Ultraísta is the result of a collaboration between Nigel Godrich (Radiohead), Laura Bettinson, and Joey Waronkera. This single is taken from their self titled debut LP released on October 2nd via Temporary Residence. In case you missed Four Tet remix for the single “Smalltalk,” you should definitely take a listen.

’96 Bulls has just uploaded a new remix for Barbara Tucker’s classic “Stop Playing.” This track is taken from a massive compilation called “Strictly Rhythm Vol. 9,” featuring as well Oliver, Jacques Renault, Eli Escobar, just to name a few. The whole package is filled with disco bombs. Gladly we have an entire stream of at least one tracks. We’re still hopping that Oliver will do the same. The official release is settled for October 14th, and you can already your pre-order your copy via iTunes. Stay tuned for more disco bangers!

Melbourne’s talented duo Philosophy Of Sound is giving away their rework for Leonard Cohen’s endless classic “By The Rivers Dark.” We all know they have been under pressure to release this jam, since the first time we heard it on the exclusive mix they did last year for our blog. According to Martin they’ve changed bass adding some elements, which in my opinion turned the original more directed to the dance-floor, without stealing the essence of it. 2012 has been a great year for Todd Terje! In January he releases “It’s The Arps”, and he keeps striking us with amazing remixes for people such as Joakim, Lindstrom, and more recently for Hot Chip. It seems like that he denotes a huge capacity of producing with quality and quantity. Of course Todd Terje didn’t appear in 2012. I could stay here forever talking about the epic sutff he already produced. This is just one of many edits Todd reworked, probably to fit on a set he was about to play. I would love to see him playing live, I’m pretty sure it would be one of the best moments of my life. Here’s his edit for the The Bangles 1980′s classic “Walk Like An Egyptian.” As usual the Norwegian disco master, takes us into another cosmic trip….

UK duo Psychemagik is giving away their remix of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” I fought for about 2 hours not to post it, but it’s useless. Very nice stuff for Djing! Psychemagik’s touch is always classy. If you’re a Nu Disco lover, you already know that The Magician plays their stuff all the time. I don’t about you, but I love this tune! Who doesn’t? How can somebody not love the 80′s? Common! Let’s start the weekend with a delicious freebie by Mystery Jets. Londoner lads have put their hands on ‘Talk Through The Night’, single of the newest band Dog Is Dead whose debut album “All Our Favorite Stories” will be released next October the 8th.

On this new single, singer Rob says “is an ode to the anti-cool, our homage to friendship and not giving a shit – the school geeks summer anthem” and we guess Mystery Jets couldn’t have resisted to that. This total indie-pop tune gets into the disco-mood with powerful synth arrangements, nice!

Let’s put some groove in this afternoon with Cyclist‘s rework for The KayGees’s ‘Kilowatt’. This disco-funk tune was released in 1978 and the Toronto-based musician/producer says is one of his favorite records, we guess that’s why he wants to bring that spirit back. Definitely he’s done a great job, so if you want to get in the boogie-mood you can grab it here because is free.

Belgian producer known as Mickey, just dropped a brand new rework of Ultimate Kaos “Casanova.” We’ve been assisting of a big movement of Summer jams lately, and I’m digging Mickey’s touch here. To be honest this is completely unexpected to me. I say this because I have everything he has been doing so far, and this different. The closest thing Mickey produced, is probably his awesome rework of Colonel Abrams “Trapped.” Anyway, here it is, for free download!
