Everyone knows Michael Andrews and Gary Jules’ song “Mad World.” It was a hit in 2003 and was even used in commercials for the video game “Gears of War.”  But what some people don’t know is that the song wasn’t an original. It’s actually a cover of Tears for Fears’ pop rock tune “Mad World.” And this cover was famously featured in the 2001 film “Donnie Darko” as part of its end sequence. This seems to be the reason why our pal Mojo Filter has decided to give credit to the cult classic in his latest rendition of Michael Andrews and Gary Jules’ cover. A mixture of new-wave and synth pop, this edit by Mojo Filter turns the somber original into a track that I can honestly see myself dancing too. Obviously not the sort of dancing people do at clubs, but the sort of dancing emo kids do by themselves behind closed doors. Yeah…that used to be me.
