Club Cœur is the long-awaited debut LP from Les Loups. The album features many of the bands very first productions, as the work on it began in winter 2010. Now, over a year later, the three wolves finally release a refined and reworked version of Club Cœur!
For me, this album is quite personal because I feel like I have witnessed it develop from the very beginning. Way back on December 9th in 2010, my blog Upside Sounds did a feature on Les Loups featuring two brand-new tracks the young trio had come out with. The songs were titled “Perfect Situation” and “Good Friends,” and were supposed to be part of an album that was intended to be released in 2011 by Umalu Recordings. Little did we know at the time, it would take another year, a couple of months, and a switch in recording agency for this album to get on store shelves. But as of today, I’m proud to announce that Les Loups’ debut album is done and will finally be released April 6th of this year! And boy wasn’t it worth the wait!
If I had to epitomize the central theme of this album, I would call it a love story. Through their music, Les Loups are able to narrate a tale of love-at-first-site that has its beginnings at a club and quickly escalates into something much more. But like most relationships that spring out of spontaneous moments of fiery lust and passion, this one is short-lived and burns out just as quickly as it started. But don’t worry, this is not a tale of bitterness, regret or despair, for Les Loups’ story has a happy ending. Fortunately, these ex-lovers are able to reconcile their differences and remain close friends; in the end, forever sealing their shared romantic past with one last dance.
As with the telling of most love stories, the most interesting parts always seem to happen in the middle. Sure, it’s always cool to hear about how a couple met or how they split up, but what you really want to know is what happened while they were together. Because of this, I share with you the climax of this love affair, which are Les Loups’ tracks Paradisco, Elephant & Ivory, Must Be Love, and The Break-Up. From the earth-shattering bassline in The Break-Up, to the stylish vocal choppings in Must Be Love, all the way down to the outrageously smooth and charismatic grooves exhibited in Paradisco and Elephant & Ivory; there’s really not much to dislike about these songs. Each one is distinctive, each one is entertaining, and more importantly, each one will get you up out of your seat and dancing. Guaranteed!
