Who doesn’t know the man performing in his pajama, walking bare-feet over the piano keys with an iPad on his hands??????
Some dose of eccentricity is not the only unusual characteristic of Chilly Gonzales. The man who “Never Stops” work as much by himself as within collaborations, among the latest names like Feist, Peaches, Jane Birkin and Tiga. This piano prodigy born as Canadian and living in France has soon placed a mark of difference in his musician career. Mixing piano based jazz with rap he broke a last frontier of music genre fusion. Gonzo has won a bunch of awards, from conventional (Emmy, Juno award, Locarno film festival award) to the most unawkward ones (Guiness world record for the longest solo artist performance 27h!!!! and a piano battle with Andrew W. K. which Chilly won by “cheating”).
Finally i get to the point…The project of Gonzales + Feist + Peaches! I got stunned when my ears bumped into this…unfortunately never got the chance to see these 3 acting in sports suites, but listening to their live work is one of the best things i’ve heard. Can’t get enough and the more i listen to it more gems i find. It’s all about piano and rap but don’t underestimate the power of lyrics, which are sharp golden scissors, sometimes hedonistic other sarcastic. Overall a bold slam poetry compendium. Coming out of a, kind of indie princess nutshell, Feist reveals herself as the charming Bitch Bla Bla. Gonzo is of course the MAD MADE MAN and in such outrageous scenario Peaches almost sounds soft.
